Paris, The City of Fashion
The glamour, glitz, and 90’s-inspired street style all made a statement at this year’s Paris Fashion Week. From the tributes to Chanel Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld the celebration of his farewell collection before his passing in February, to the incredible array of highly anticipated designers that hit the runway, take a look into my favorite moments and memories from Paris Fashion Week 2019.
Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello started the week’s highlights on a bright note with feathery party frocks that glowed in the night and killer suit detailing. Karl Lagerfeld’s show kept the climate with a bit of chill in the air. The collection exuded a chic winter lifestyle, with a snow-filled runway for the indoor Swiss chalets at Chanel. Hedi Slimane for Celine introduced a different direction and brought back the Celine we love. From the mixture of knee length skirts to skinny jeans and coats, he gave the collection a twist of French girl on-the-go in the 70’s and 80’s. Lastly, Louis Vuitton reimagined the Centre Pompidou at the Louvre with a display that left everyone breathless.
From street style and bucket hats, to ruffles and sheer flowing gowns, designers such as Alexander McQueen, Valentino and Givenchy made their individualized statements on the runway. What stood out most, was the generous, heartfelt tributes to Chanel’s beloved Karl Lagerfeld. Flowers were laid outside the Chanel boutique, and designers such as Marine Serre and Maria Grazia Chuiri at Dior vocalized their respects for a “true designer” with opulent taste and desire to make women look and feel beautiful with his designs.
Lagerfeld’s greatly anticipated final collection lived up to the hype and Paris held it’s breath as it awaited the grand reveal. The show began with a moment of silence before the cinematic tweed ready-to-wear collection made it’s way down the runway. Models walked with pride and were filled with emotions. Penelope Cruz made an appearance with a single white rose in hand, as the audience gave a tear-stained standing ovation at the end. Monumental from start to finish, Paris Fashion Week 2019 is one I will never forget.
